Job Description:
Position SummaryTo work with physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients utilizing professional skills to perform all nuclear medicine procedures in the Radiology Department. Coordinates activities of the Nuclear Medicine section, including but not limited to, quality assurance, planning, assessing, ordering supplies, and education of patients/staff.Job Duties/ResponsibilitiesActs as the education resource for hospital-wide radiation safety issues/practices.Acts as the liaison between technologists and students, hospital and college and ensures appropriate guidance in attainment of program goals and hospital mission.Adjusts technical factors and procedures according to the age and condition of the patient.Assists Administrative Director and Radiologists in evaluating and selecting equipment.Assists in the instruction of co-workers as required as well as in the review, updating and developing of new procedures as they become available.Completes continuing education in order to maintain Iowa Permit to Practice and ARRT and/or NMTCB.Coordinates quarterly radiation safety meetings and provides consulting physicist with documentation required during audits.Interviews patients and records medical history relative to nuclear medicine procedures.Maintains adequate inventory of supplies necessary for radiopharmaceutical preparation.Maintains department reports and records and collects statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.Maintains hospital-wide radiation badge supply and records for the monthly badge readings.Maintains records of the use and disposal of all radioactive materials in keeping with the IDPH and The Joint Commission standards.Performs daily quality control, reports equipment malfunctions to the Administrative Director of Radiology, reports safety concerns to appropriate personnel.Performs nuclear medicine procedures, in association with radiologists, calling for the administration, preparation, calibration and measurement of all radionuclide materials used in patient care.Identifies, accesses and prepares medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Provides for the care and protection of patients, assuming care for their emotional, psychological and physical needs while adhering to The Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals.Provides necessary clerical support, such as completing requisitions, filing etc.Utilizes computer data to develop information and processes images for interpretation.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsCompletion of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program, required.Certification(s), Licensure(s) & Registration(s)Registration by the ARRT and/or NMTCB, requiredIowa Permit to Practice or verification with Iowa Bureau of Radiologic Health of pending issue, required.
