Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Perioperative Unit Coordinator performs a variety of clerical and patient service duties necessary to maintain an efficient flow of operations for Perioperative Services. The Perioperative Unit Coordinator (PUC) performs secretarial/clerical duties associated with the clinical functioning of a unit.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Communicates with other departments to get inpatients ready for transport to the Operating Room (OR), to avoid delays with the surgery scheduleManages inpatient transportationCollaborates with OR charge nurse, Prep/Recovery charge nurse, and APS nurse to ensure timely patient throughputCommunicates with OR nursing staff regarding surgical times and wait timesCommunicates appropriate and accurate information to other hospitals departments and servicesVerifies patient informationMonitors front desk area for traffic control and to ensure patients/visitors are appropriately servedVerifies vendors and other visitors entering the OR for appropriate credentialing, identification, and attireCollaborates with OR nursing staff to place family members in consult rooms as neededPerforms a variety of clerical and patient service duties necessary to maintain efficient flow of operations for Perioperative servicesEnsures OR supply carts are stocked with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for physicians, residents, and other visitorsCollaborates with other departments to maintain supplies for POC testingMaintains a clean and tidy desk area and entrance to the ORPrints patient labelsPrints surgery schedules and provides updates as neededMaintains surgery schedule and log including timesAnswers phone lines within company guidelines, routes callers to appropriate destination and, answers questionsManages and routes incoming/outgoing mailMaintains all intraoperative forms in a filing system and maintains par levelsPlaces facility, biomedical, and IT work orders as neededManages Scrub Ex cards and Radiology Exposure badgesDemonstrates knowledge of medical terminologyAdheres to State and Federal safety guidelines, and Joint Commission and AORN standardsMonitors family waiting room as needed.Assists other departments retrieve needed patient information/patient labels.Assists with departmental stocking needsJob Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent (GED) recommended6 months of clerical experience in hospital or health care setting preferredHeart Saver certification requiredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities
