About The Role:
The Sommelier is responsible for the management of the wine and beverage program. The Sommelier will partner with the Restaurant Director and General Manager and support operational activities to ensure high quality of service and maximizing profits.
What You Will Do
Drive the guest experience in accordance with restaurant goals through prioritization of beverage sales, service, and pairing
Proactively seek opportunities for sales, in line with guests’ preferred experience
Ensure food and beverage arrive to guests quickly and correctly
Ensure that beverages are served at the right temperature and within the proper serving ware
Respond to all guest questions. Provide guest assistance, direction and information as requested when working in public areas
Maintain thorough knowledge of all wine, saké, beer, spirits, specialty cocktails, teas and sodas and all non-alcoholic beverages.
Assist Beverage Manager in ordering all bar products-liquor, beer, wine and consumables to par, as required
Assist in preparing for and performing weekly inventory of all beverage department products, as required
Assist in researching and conducting comprehensive beverage training for FOH staff, working in conjunction with Corporate Beverage Director
Assist in maintaining beverage encyclopedia
Oversee maintenance/cleanliness of all decanters, wine stations and all storage areas pertaining to beverage
Perform opening and closing duties as needed
Additional duties may be added as deemed necessary the Corporate Beverage Director, General Manager or Beverage Manager
Following the posted opening and closing duties and side work sheet
Attend daily pre-meal/communication meeting
Follow and adhere to all standards set for by the Department of Health (DOH) and appropriate Federal/State Liquor Control Boards
About You:
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sommelier in an upscale, high volume restaurant
WSET certifications preferred or certifications from another accredited wine institution preferred
Extensive knowledge of wine and wine service techniques
Ability to think quickly on your feet and multi-task with ease
Have excellent communication and organization skills
Be able to relate to all levels of guests and management.
Work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
Strong attention to detail
Be a self-motivator and motivator of others
A commitment to learning and continuous improvement
Requirements:
Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs;
Ability to stand for prolong periods of time
Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the store. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment
Climbing steps regularly.
Compensation range: $18/ hr + tips
