Assistant Chief Medical Officer Opening- Virginia Department for Behavorial Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS)- Central State Hospital 

Location is located within Driving Distance of Richmond, Colonial Heights, Chesterfield, Chester, Dinwiddie, and Fort Gregg Adams

What Youll Do:

  • Prescribe medications in line with standard care, seeking approval for exceptions.
  • Obtain informed consent or judicial authorization for treatment.
  • Monitor and address medication side effects; report adverse reactions.
  • Assess patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Involve CSB and family in discharge planning when possible.
  • Ensure timely patient discharge progress.
  • Arrange coverage and complete documentation before time off.
  • Participate in on-call coverage, ensuring timely treatment and documentation.
  • Lead the treatment team, ensuring collaboration across disciplines.
  • Monitor and reduce seclusion/restraint use; follow hospital policies.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects and committees.
  • Maintain VA medical license and DEA registration, complete CME credits.
  • Attend at least 50% of Med Staff and committee meetings.
  • Complete annual mandatory training and adhere to hospital policies.
  • Provide preceptorship to students and residents as needed.
  • Support EHR transition, including testing, training, and rollout.
  • Assist in developing EHR-related policies and procedures.
  • Lead EHR training sessions for staff and new hires.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current VA Medical License and DEA Registration.
  • Commitment to leadership, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in psychiatric treatment and patient care management.
  • Strong communication and training skills, especially with EHR systems.
