Overview:

Reporting directly to the Executive Sous Chef, the Senior Sous Chef is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring the smooth execution of events, and maintaining culinary excellence across the kitchen team. This position requires advanced leadership and management skills to supervise and guide a team of cooks while upholding the highest standards of quality, consistency, and efficiency. The Senior Sous Chef plays a key role in optimizing kitchen operations, balancing budgeted food and labor costs, and identifying opportunities for operational improvements. Additionally, this position involves collaborating with the Culinary Director on menu development, contributing to the creation and refinement of dishes and menus that drive innovation and maintain the program's competitive edge.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads and mentors the kitchen team, including chefs and cooks, ensuring high performance, consistency, and adherence to standards.
  • Drives continuous improvement of kitchen practices, systems, and operational efficiency, identifying opportunities to enhance productivity while maintaining quality.
  • Oversee event logistics, reviewing event paperwork and production schedules, ensuring timely and seamless execution according to established standards.
  • Set clear, measurable expectations for the team, holding individuals accountable for their performance and fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Uphold a high standard of professionalism and respect, offering the same hospitality to staff that is extended to clients and guests.
  • Collaborate with other chefs and management to ensure alignment of goals and expectations across departments.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively, providing guidance and development opportunities to elevate team skills and morale.
  • Assist the Executive Sous Chef in ensuring strict adherence to safety, sanitation, and food handling protocols across the kitchen.
  • Regularly evaluate and refine recipes, production sheets, and menu items, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and innovation to maintain culinary excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in high-end catering operations, including the management of large-scale and complex events.
  • Advanced culinary expertise with a deep understanding of food preparation, flavor profiles, and modern cooking techniques.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in culinary leadership roles, with significant exposure to both kitchen operations and strategic management.
  • Expertise in managing high-volume, sophisticated foodservice operations, with a proven track record of maintaining quality and profitability under pressure.
