We are looking for an experienced Associate Attorney to join our Tax Controversy Department. The ideal candidate is a team player with at least 3 years experience in tax or controversy fields. In addition, they should be able to:

Represent clients before the IRS and other tax authorities to enter into payment plans, negotiate balances (Offer in Compromise), and address compliance issues

Advocate on behalf of clients in federal and state tax audits (income, sales tax, and other audits)

Research, address, and consult with clients on IRS practice and procedural issues including tax assessment and collections, penalty and interest assessments, statutes of limitation for refunds and assessments

Draft written communications to taxing authorities

Work on the IRS account issues for individual and business clients, and entity issues such as classification corrections

Work with other law firm practice groups on issues that intersect with tax issues such as corporate taxation and crypto currency tax

Participate in firm training

Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced and collaborative environment

Advise and counsel corporate and individual clients on tax issues, including crypto tax

Basic Qualifications:

J.D., Licensed in Illinois

Experience handling federal and state tax issues involving individuals and business entities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong research and writing skills

Ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax professionals or clients

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Experience prioritizing assignments, meeting deadlines, demonstrating initiative and providing sound legal judgment

Preferred Qualifications:

3 years of experience in tax law is preferred

Knowledge of legal and tax issues to crypto currency is a plus

Experience with IRS and Illinois tax payment plans, negotiations, audits, and handling tax disputes

Experience in Tax Court and District Court

Salary - $90k to $120k
