What you will be doing: - Represent clients before the IRS and other tax authorities to enter into payment plans, negotiate balances (Offer in Compromise), and address compliance issues
- Advocate on behalf of clients in federal and state tax audits (income, sales tax, and other audits)
- Research, address, and consult with clients on IRS practice and procedural issues including tax assessment and collections, penalty and interest assessments, statutes of limitation for refunds and assessments
- Draft written communications to taxing authorities
- Work on the IRS account issues for individual and business clients, and entity issues such as classification corrections
- Work with other law firm practice groups on issues that intersect with tax issues such as corporate taxation and cryptocurrency tax
- Participate in firm training
- Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
- Advise and counsel corporate and individual clients on tax issues, including crypto tax
Experience you will need: - J.D., Licensed in Illinois
- Experience handling federal and state tax issues involving individuals and business entities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong research and writing skills
- Ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax professionals or clients
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience prioritizing assignments, meeting deadlines, demonstrating initiative and providing sound legal judgment
- 3 years of experience in tax law is preferred
- Knowledge of legal and tax issues related to cryptocurrency is a plus
- Experience with IRS and Illinois tax payment plans, negotiations, audits, and handling tax disputes
- Experience in Tax Court and District Court
Salary: $90,000 - $120,000/year
