The initial appointment is 18-months with the possibility of extension contingent on performance and funding availability.The postdoctoral position primarily involves empirical research in the field of agricultural economics pertaining to optimal irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer management for barley and sugar beet in semi-arid production regions. We are interested in evaluating the economic implications of various irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer practices.The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with Drs. Patrick Hatzenbuehler (University of Idaho), Christopher Rogers (USDA ARS), Dave Bjorneberg (USDA ARS), and David Tarkalson (USDA ARS) to conduct primary research using field trial and other primary and secondary data.The goal for the project is to develop improved recommendations for irrigation and fertilizer usage for barley and sugar beet production, and ultimately enhance agricultural productivity, economic performance, and environmental quality.The selected candidate is expected to have strong data and statistical analysis abilities, computer programming skills, familiarity with managing large datasets, and an understanding of agricultural economics. Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in agricultural economics, applied economics, data/computer science, agronomy or related field. Experience working collaboratively on a multi-investigator team. Experience programming (STATA, R, Python, etc.) Experience working with large complex datasets. Experience writing for technical and non-technical audiences.
