Education Requirement - Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Experience - 1+ years of experience working as a Mammography Technologist, or;
- Successful completion of a Mammography Externship, or;
- Board certified as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), ready to take the Mammography boards
License/Certifications - American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (RT.R.ARRT) certification in Radiography required.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities - Knowledge of Mammography Equipment: Understanding of mammography systems, including digital and 3D imaging technology, as well as routine quality control procedures.
- Breast Anatomy and Pathology : Solid knowledge of breast anatomy, physiology, and pathology, particularly in identifying common abnormalities such as masses, calcifications, and structural distortions.
- Radiation Safety: Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and proper positioning techniques to minimize exposure to both patients and staff.
- Patient Communication and Care: Strong ability to communicate with patients, explain procedures, and provide emotional support, especially considering the sensitive nature of breast imaging.
- Image Quality Assessment: Ability to assess image quality and ensure that all diagnostic criteria are met, providing radiologists with clear and accurate images for diagnosis.
- Adherence to Regulatory Standards: Familiarity with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and other relevant regulations to ensure compliance and maintain accreditation.
- Attention to Detail: Capable of following precise protocols for patient positioning, compression, and image capture to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Team : Strong ability to work with radiologists, breast surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate comprehensive patient care and follow-up.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Basic ability to troubleshoot issues with mammography equipment to minimize downtime and ensure continued patient care.
