The Certified Pharmacy Technician-Level 1 supports pharmacy operations by preparing and delivering medication while adhering to established protocols. Responsibilities include handling controlled substances, providing customer support, and maintaining inventory accuracy. This role requires excellent customer service skills and compliance with regulatory standards.
Under direction of the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and supervision of the Clinical Pharmacist on duty, follows established pharmacy and institutional policies and procedures pertaining to the routine support tasks integral to pharmacy operations. This will include medication preparation and delivery, and handling of controlled substances. Certified pharmacy technicians are responsible for picking, delivering, and refilling Schedule II through VI medication for the automated dispensing machines located throughout the institution. Prepares and repackages unit dose medication, prepares sterile and non-sterile compounded preparations following established protocols and guidelines. Provides support to customers outside of the pharmacy department, including nurses, physicians, inpatients, and outpatients and escalates questions and concerns to pharmacist on duty. Responsible for the accurate transfer of inventory items from pharmacy to specified inventory locations and vice versa.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a pharmacy technician course preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician preferred
Licensure and/or Certification:
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
- National certification as a Pharmacy Technician is required.
Skills:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Computer skills required.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
