The Engineer VI supervises the professional and nonprofessional personnel of a major engineering activity; develops procedures and standards for carrying out their specialty in the organization, and represents the organization with authority on technical engineering matters within the area of specialization; may direct a large engineering section or assist in directing a large engineering division or district office as a technical specialist in planning, development, design and/or research; may lead the efforts of a team engaged in carrying out difficult or critical project assignments with emphasis in the area of specialization; or serves as a staff specialist responsible for overall control and coordination of a number of major and complex engineering projects or programs; and performs other related duties as assigned.

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

1. Professional License: Applicants MUST POSSESS a valid State of Hawaii Professional Engineer license AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION, as required by the Minimum Qualification Requirements.
2. Basic Education: A bachelor's degree from a school of engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.
3. Engineering Experience: Applicants must possess four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience. At least one (1) year of Engineering Experience must have been comparable to the Engineer V level.
4. Supervisory or Staff Advisory Experience: One (1) year of Supervisory or Staff Advisory Experience as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.
5. Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license.
