We have a very technical team of builders, and our CTO likes coding. What we lack is someone to handle the people and processes side of things as the team grows over 15 engineers. This doesn't mean that's all you would do, but it is a significant part of the job.
Some examples of responsibilities include:
- Hiring the smartest people and attracting talent
- Managing 1:1s and motivation
- Owning the total output of engineering and finding ways to increase efficiency
- Knowing where each engineering initiative is and pushing things forward
- Help reviewing code or jumping into the codebase if necessary
- Assisting in the hiring process
Qualifications:
- Need to have built teams from scratch somewhere
- Need some kind of startup experience (either a founder themselves or early employee at a reputable company)
- Need to have been managing people or being Head+ for at least 2 years
- No need to have 20+ years of experience; there are people that move up the ladder quickly
- At least 7-8 years of experience in engineering organizations is expected
