Your impact

The Denver office is currently seeking a Project Architect to join our design team. As a Project Architect, in partnership with the Architectural Discipline Leader, Project Manager, Project Designer, you are accountable for project financial performance and team communication. Responsible for the development, issuance and content of deliverables, technical content of documents and coordination of disciplines including consultants and for the supervision of all staff producing documents on your projects. You’ll help others by guiding them forward, participating in directing growth and strategic planning as part of the Company’s management team. This opportunity will entail securing, assigning and maintaining a project team containing all the resources required to successfully deliver projects while maintaining quality. You’ll function as a primary contributor during client meetings and presentations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring the overall design intent of the project established by the Project Designer is incorporated into the detailed documentation.
  • Monitors the design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring the design idea is consistent and properly executed.
  • Responsible for technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a project.
  • Writes and/or works with the project specification writer to develop specifications and is responsible for coordination of drawings and specifications.
  • Checks completed reports, plans, estimates and calculations for accuracy.
  • Sets the overall strategy for producing the documents and identifies the sheets planned for each stage of the work. This includes defining how data will be organized into files and which elements will be incorporated in a Building Information Model (BIM).
  • Leads the project kick-off meeting in conjunction with the Project Manager ensuring that a full interactive planning session is held with all key discipline leads and consultants on the project.
  • Works with BIM Manager to define and set up project team software parameters and works with team BIM Lead to manage project standards.
  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the entire Project Team.
  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary.
  • Ensures that construction detail documentation conforms to quality assurance, quality control and best practice standards.
  • Supervises preparation of technical drawings by other less senior level architects or technicians.
  • Performs as team lead on certain projects.
  • Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff, participates in professional development reviews and “Lessons Learned” sessions.
  • Reviews drawings supplied by vendors, clients, and other discipline group designers that affect the specific project design.
  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Develops a positive relationship of trust with clients and other project leadership.
  • Regularly communicates with client representative to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews and delivery of final presentation.
  • Receives project direction from the Design Principal and technical direction from the Quality Control project reviewer, the Architectural Discipline Director and the Quality Control Manager in the studio.
  • Coordinates and tracks electronic documentation and files with project team, clients and consultants.
  • Assists in all planning and conducting of work making minor adaptations and modifications to complete working drawing set(s).
  • Leads a section or group of designers/drafters, often on a single project in a specialized field.
  • Meets with municipal building department and other governing agency officials to coordinate approvals or variances.
  • Writes reports and memos to consultants and vendors to issue changes and track resolutions.
  • Provides technical support and project communications to team as required.
  • Attends on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings as required for the project. Prepares and coordinates the review of contractor’s schedules, submission of shop drawings and samples.
  • Performs and/or assists the specification writer in product research, consulting with manufacturers, evaluating and selecting project related materials.
  • Involved with specification set-up and drawing coordination, research and appropriate use of JACOBS documentation standards.
  • Provides support to all team members for specific market, discipline, or other areas of expertise.
  • Participates in team meetings to help resolve project issues, coordination with other disciplines, schedule adherence, technical issues.
  • Participates in review of project costs and budgets, adherence to schedule.
  • Prepares meeting minutes of consultant coordination meetings and/or oversees development of the minutes with a project admin or the project manager depending on the project size.
  • May prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and builds models for client/project team review.
  • Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.

  • Must have good social, networking, organization, people and presentation skills.
  • Creating and growing your personal brand within JACOBS across disciplines, offices and divisions.
  • Create and maintain internal and external client relationships leveraging them to secure invitations to future project opportunities.
  • Being a strong advocate for the Denver studio to other JACOBS colleagues and offices, ability to network internally.
  • May participate in business development meetings with team leaders to target specified project, client or market opportunities.
  • Actively involved in the Denver community in a capacity that is in alignment with personal goals, hobbies and passions.

Here's what you'll need:

  • At least 8 years of professional experience, preferably in public architecture projects.
  • At least 2 years of team leadership or management experience involving direct client contact and full responsibility for projects.
  • Professional Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Master's degree in Architecture.
  • Registered Architect (RA).
  • Strong knowledge of design, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Ability to develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and various project delivery methodologies including but not limited to; design-bid-build and design build.
  • Some knowledge of newer project delivery methodologies including but not limited to; Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) & Public-Private-Partnerships (P3).
  • Advanced knowledge of QA/QC process.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
  • Possess strong hand and digital skills.
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

  • Participation in professional organizations.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software.
  • Proficiency in Navisworks and Revizto.
  • NCARB Certificate holder.

The base salary range for this position is $89,100.00 to $139,250.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
