Job Description:

The Meat Team Member provides support to the meat department, encompassing duties related to counter service, stocking, and sanitation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a fresh and appealing display by checking product quality, keeping cases and shelves clean and well-stocked, rotating out-of-date products, filling ice tables, and performing other assigned tasks.

  • Ensure back stock is in good order.

  • Assist with the sampling program, maintaining sample areas as full, clean, and visually appealing.

  • Clean cases, glass, signs, uprights, coolers, smokers, floors, and drains as required.

  • Arrive at work stations on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.

  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner, and model suggestive selling techniques; answer phones and pages promptly and courteously.

  • Maximize sales potential through proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product.

  • Follow established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.

  • Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintain equipment according to WFM cleanliness and safety standards.

  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensure accuracy of signs and pricing.

  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations.

  • Perform other duties assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.

Required Skills:
  • Sell proactively.

  • Learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department.

  • Visionally examine products for quality and freshness.

  • Proactively read labels and familiarize oneself with various products.

  • Assist with periodic inventory checks.

  • Deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors.

  • Meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members.

  • Follow directions and procedures; exhibit effective time management and organization skills.

  • Possess a passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market.

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.

  • Understand and comply with WFM quality goals.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Lift 50 pounds.
  • Stand/walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Ability to handle knives and other cutting equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
