Position Description:
The Paralegal is under the direct supervision of the unit Supervising Attorney and the other unit attorneys. The paralegal assists the attorneys and takes primary responsibility for creating and maintaining case files. Candidate should be capable of acting with a substantial degree of independence and responsibility in this professional capacity.
Illustrative Tasks:
The specific duties of a paralegal shall include the following:
· Make calls to clients, the County, opposite party
· Respond to queries regarding the program and references
· Schedule appointments
· Review Court Dockets on current cases
· Conduct background searches and eviction history
· Conduct research on rental property, ownership of landlord
· Conducts Intake Interviews;
· Gather information pertinent to client case including tax returns, pay stubs, Statements of benefits such as Social Security benefit, SNAP benefits and so on that impacts the finances of the home; update the file accordingly.
· Prepare a basic budget of expenses
· Prepare Intake summary for files
· Prepare correspondence;
· Draft legal documents;
· Deliver and file documents as needed

· Ability to perform legal research;
· Ability to interview clients and document information;
· Proficient writing and communication skills;
· Ability to prioritize work activities;
· Basic computer skills;
· Ability to deal effectively and compassionately with clients;
· Ability to accept directions from attorneys;
· Exhibit a spirit of teamwork and cooperation in completing job responsibilities;
· Have a work record which reflects dependability including availability on a prompt and regular basis.
Necessary Special Requirement:
· Paralegal Certificate or on the job experience
