MAINTENANCE MANAGER
Summary Description:
Responsible for management of the maintenance department to ensure maximum utilization of maintenance employees to keep the plant running efficiently and minimizing equipment downtime and facility issues.
Essential Functions:
DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT:
- Direct, maintain and enforce the safety program for the maintenance department; review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all employees
- Responsible for maintaining the safe operation of all equipment and building infrastructure
- Maintain maintenance budget and capital monies balancing the cost with equipment repair needs
- Responsible for ensuring equipment is maintained to comply with all environmental and health and safety requirements of the city, county, state and federal
- Responsible for the management, supervision and development of the maintenance department
- Ensure regulatory compliance with NFPA-70E (Arc Flash) for all maintenance activities within the Company
- Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge and contribution of the maintenance technicians
- Assist in the hiring of maintenance personnel
- Assist with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions
- Implement programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness and accompanying 6S levels
- Track, analyze and improve key maintenance performances indices including asset utilization, up time, PM compliance, etc.
- Prepare reports, analyze data and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems
TRAINING:
- Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped and motivated so that the maintenance program can be achieved in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner
- Provide technical training and guidance for maintenance, supervisors and employees on equipment
- Maintain and update all operational, LO/TO and training manuals and procedures; ensure that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most current version of all operational and LO/TO policies and procedures
- Participate in training and development programs including all areas of environmental, health and safety issues, especially those dealing with proper handling of hazardous materials and hazardous waste
COMMUNICATION:
- Communicate regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication for maintenance issues
- Develop and maintain a working relationship with all departments and management insuring an ongoing connection with production teams; coordinate directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in production areas
PLANNING/ORGANIZING:
- Establish and maintain a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders and maintenance history on plant equipment
- Select and manage contractors and vendors as required
- Initiate and carry out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs
- Monitor the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies and equipment and initiate the re-ordering when necessary
TPM:
- Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate problems, and identify opportunities for improvement
- Responsible for ensuring preventive maintenance work orders are done on a timely basis and all PMs are returned to be entered into the CMMS maintenance system
- Manage systems and foster an environment of continuous improvement to maximize operational availability
- Engage department to follow health and safety practices as they apply to department and the facility to drive a strong safety culture continuously reducing injury rates
- Ability to assist with problem solving and troubleshooting to minimize downtime and increase uptime
- Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned
Skills or Experience Required:
- Bachelors of Science or Bachelors of Art Degree recommended
- Training pertaining to mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
- Ten (10) years experience demonstrating the ability to lead in the maintenance environment.
- Responsible for learning all equipment which requires a strong mechanical and electrical background.
- Must have excellent computer skills to include, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, CMMS maintenance program.
- Must have proven technical aptitude for chemical processes, electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Must be highly motivated individual with good written communication and presentations skills. Must possess proven leadership skills with the ability to identify and develop the talents of maintenance personnel.
- Must have the ability to work all shifts and follow all environmental, health and safety procedures.
