Heavy Equipment Mechanic Job Description:
Masis Professional Group has an immediate need for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for a leading full-service heavy civil contracting company offering a comprehensive range of commercial construction services. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks and construction equipment, including dump trucks , tractors , and other related machinery.
Heavy Equipment Mechanic Responsibilities:
- Maintain and Repair Equipment : Perform regular maintenance and repair work on heavy construction equipment, dump trucks, and tractor trailers, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition.
- Troubleshoot and Fix Breakdowns : Quickly diagnose and resolve breakdowns in equipment, minimizing downtime and ensuring efficiency on the job site.
- Hydraulic and Diesel System Repairs : Repair and adjust hydraulic systems, diesel power units, safety valves, and other critical components like mold boards and scarifiers on road graders.
- Vehicle Inspections : Inspect, adjust, and repair gasoline and diesel-powered tractors, dump trucks, and other construction vehicles.
- Welding & Fabrication : Perform incidental welding and fabrication tasks to repair or replace damaged equipment parts.
- Safety and Compliance : Adhere to strict safety guidelines and communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents to the Maintenance Supervisor for prompt resolution.
- Parts Replacement : Install, replace, and adjust essential parts such as filters, belts, and hoses to maintain equipment performance.
- Continuous Learning : Participate in training programs and workshops to stay up-to-date on the latest innovations in heavy equipment technology and repair practices.
Heavy Equipment Mechanic Qualifications
- Experience : At least 5 years of experience as a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic, with a focus on heavy-duty construction equipment (Caterpillar brand) dump trucks , tractors , and related machinery.
- Mechanical Expertise : In-depth knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair requirements for heavy-duty construction equipment, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Diagnostic Skills : Strong ability to diagnose mechanical defects and implement effective solutions.
- Welding Knowledge : Basic welding skills and experience in using welding equipment for repairs.
- Tools Proficiency : Skilled in the use of hand and power tools necessary for heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Safety Awareness : Trained in safety procedures and hazard recognition, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Communication : Able to understand and follow both oral and written instructions, as well as complete maintenance logs and reports in standard formats.
- Technical Reading : Proficient in reading, interpreting, and applying information from charts, manuals, and technical schematics.
Work Environment
This role involves working in various outdoor and potentially hazardous conditions, including exposure to dirt, grime, grease, dust, high noise levels, and weather elements. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and coveralls to ensure safety while performing tasks. Some tasks may expose you to vibration and movement from machinery.
