Paralegal – Homeless Prevention Program

Broward County, FL

We are currently seeking a Paralegal to join our Homeless Prevention Program . In this vital role, you will support attorneys by managing case files, conducting client intake, and helping at-risk individuals navigate legal challenges to secure stable housing. This is an exciting opportunity to create meaningful change while working as part of a collaborative and mission-driven team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews and gather essential documents such as tax returns, pay stubs, and statements of benefits such as Social Security benefit, SNAP benefits and so on that impacts the finances of the home
  • Review court dockets, perform background searches, and research eviction histories.
  • Research rental property ownership and communicate with clients, landlords, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare case files, intake summaries, basic budgets, correspondence, and legal documents.
  • Schedule appointments and deliver or file legal documents as needed.
  • Provide compassionate support while maintaining communication with clients and attorneys.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the program and provide references as needed.
  • Support attorneys with legal research and ensure case files are up-to-date and well-organized.


Qualifications

  • Strong ability to perform legal research and analyze information.
  • Excellent customer service, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with basic computer tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Empathy and the ability to work effectively with vulnerable populations.
  • Dependability, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage a workload effectively.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and cooperation while taking direction from supervising attorneys.
  • Paralegal certificate or relevant on-the-job experience required.


Necessary Special Requirement

  • Paralegal Certificate or on the job experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with low-income or underserved communities.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Creole is a plus.
