The Deployment Technician plays a key role in the deployment and maintenance of advanced technologies, focusing on network deployment, fiber installation, and ensuring the overall efficiency of the network infrastructure. This role involves working in the field, assisting with daily deployment activities, providing feedback to engineering teams, and participating in monitoring, maintenance, and removal of fiber networks. Deployment Technicians are responsible for executing tasks related to fiber cables, splice enclosures, network acceptance processes, and equipment updates, all while ensuring safety and adhering to operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate construction tools and equipment, including concrete saws, core drills, skid steers, and forklifts.
- Conduct safety checks on site and on equipment daily.
- Set up, perform, and break down daily activities in accordance with engineering plans.
- Read, interpret, and execute construction drawings and engineering designs.
- Document daily project activities and onsite conditions, maintaining electronic records of work completed.
- Resolve onsite issues and escalate when necessary, maintaining a solutions-oriented mindset.
- Install and configure fiber cables (both aerial and underground) and splice enclosures.
- Perform fiber fusion splicing of loose tube and ribbon cables.
- Handle hardware/software updates and changes to site equipment.
- Ensure proper handoff of new and modified networks through the Network Handoff Process.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, ensuring tools are kept in good working order.
- Interface with customers and carriers for service delivery and assurance.
Education/Certifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate's Degree or some college (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license required, with a clean driving record subject to background check.
- Military or technical training in telecommunications, electronics, and power systems (preferred).
Experience:
- Experience in fiber engineering design, splicing, and/or construction implementation.
- Familiarity with OSP and ISP fiber installation standards.
- Knowledge of ROW construction standards (aerial and underground).
- Familiarity with NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards.
- Experience with wireless/telecommunications technologies and platforms.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while delivering quality service.
- Availability for on-call emergency support on a 24/7 basis.
- Experience with fiber and RF test equipment (e.g., OTDR, Fusion splicer, PIM analyzer).
