Description Your Opportunity This is a career opportunity for a Senior Archaeologist, based in Georgia, northern Florida, or Alabama for a leading environmental consulting firm providing project permitting to a wide variety of private and federal, state, and local government clients in the southeastern U.S. The individual will manage cultural resources projects and work collaboratively with others in the southeastern cultural resource practice.
The candidate will be joining an established cultural resources team that has been operating across the southeast for decades. This group specializes in historic cemetery preservation, complex linear projects including transmission lines and pipelines, urban archaeological mitigation, and Florida architectural history and archaeological surveys. The practice group is primarily based in Tampa, Florida, and we seek a new colleague who is comfortable living in and working in geographies outside our core range.

Your Key Responsibilities - Act as the technical resource lead and/or principal investigator for cultural resource investigations for a variety of clients and sectors including work in the utility industry (power and gas), transportation, renewable energy, private development, and local government.
- Assist in proposal development by preparing technical elements including scope, budget, and schedule to ensure complete satisfaction.
- Lead and collaborate on growing the cultural resources practice in north Florida, Alabama, and Georgia by establishing the personnel and physical resources to execute projects effectively.
- Provide supervision, training, technical direction, and mentoring to developing staff.
- Position Stantec to be a leader in cultural resources with the Georgia Department of Transportation, and other private and public clients.
- Maintain a high professional profile externally through membership in professional organizations, continually increasing client contact base.
- Opportunity to assist in business development and marketing by building new client relationships and maintaining existing ones.
Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials - Experience leading and conducting all phases of cultural resource work; north Florida, Alabama, or Georgia experience required.
- Proven experience of positive relationship with Florida State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Alabama SHPO, or Georgia SHPO and other regulatory agencies.
- Section 106 and 110 National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) consultation experience, preferred.
- Historic cemetery research and documentation experience, a plus.
- Geophysical skills, particularly GPR, a plus.
- Specialization in historic cemetery laws in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, a plus.
- Assessments of eligibility and effects for built environment resources.
- Secretary of the Interior (SOI) qualified in archaeology or a related field.
- Professional writing, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
Education and Experience - MA or MS in archaeology or a related field. An emphasis on Georgia and southeastern cultural resources, preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in the application and interpretation of Georgia and federal laws and regulations for projects of all sizes.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in cultural resources. Proven project management and program development experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
