The Women's Place provides family centered care to approximately 4,000 obstetric and newborn patients at UVA Medical Center each year. It is comprised of 40 private rooms located within 8E, 8N, and 8C at University hospital. There are 4 OB triage rooms, 8 labor-delivery-recovery suites, 2 operating rooms, 12 mother-baby rooms, 13 high-risk antepartum/postpartum
rooms, and a newborn procedural area. As both a community and high risk referral center, these services are complimented by a renowned Neonatal Intensive Care unit and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants. The most common medical diagnosis are gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, placenta previa/abruption,
chorioamnionitis, newborn jaundice, newborn hypoglycemia, and preterm birth. The usual nurse to patient ratio is 2:1 for the operating room, 1:1-2 for LDR, 1:2-4 for MB, HR-AP, PP, and Triage. The Women's Place has achieved both a Baby Friendly Designation as well as an Honor Roll Status from the Immunization
Action Coalition.

TIME TYPE: FULL TIME
SHIFT: NIGHTS (36 hrs per week)
Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a Medical Center Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
- Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization.
- Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedure to promote patient health and wellness.
- Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
- Performs administrative support functions.
- Maintains necessary skills and competencies.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $15.37 - $23.82 Hourly
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Experience: No experience required
Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required.
- Certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in the Commonwealth of Virginia OR must meet one of the following criteria (required):
(1) Successful completion of the UVa PCT Education Program OR Successful completion of another PCT Education Program that has been approved by NPDS.
(2) Documented proof of at least 1 year of recent (within past 2 years) experience in a similar PCT role from an outside institution. Candidate must successfully complete a written exam and must successfully demonstrate clinical skills during 6 month probationary period.
(3) Passage of a nationally recognized and accredited PCT Certification exam. (Example - National Healthcareer Association - C-PCT). Present Certificate as verification.
- OR must meet one of the following criteria (required):
(1) Currently enrolled student nurses who have successfully completed the Medical/Surgical Clinical Experience and Didactic are exempt from the Certified Nurse Aide requirement.
(2) EMT or above certification. Candidate will complete the UVA PCT Course within 6 month probationary period
(3) Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
