Cook Keith & Davis, formerly Darrell W. Cook & Associates, is looking for a tenacious, new to three-year attorney to assist our clients in maximizing their wealth. We are an expanding litigation boutique that specializes in all aspects of commercial litigation. The ideal candidate is relentless in pursuing client goals, has a thirst for continued knowledge, and is humble enough to understand that they do not know everything at this juncture of their career. For this particular position, we are looking for a candidate that enjoys complex matters and the challenges that such cases present. The lawyer will work with a practice group that includes complex litigation in State and Federal Court, pursuing creditor's rights in bankruptcy litigation, high-net worth judgment defense, and appellate work. We want to take you to the next level and vice versa. This isn’t a job, but an invitation to join our group of attorneys, assistants, and clerks who make a difference in the lives of others. The right candidate will be excited to join a skilled team who works towards our clients' shared goals. This is for a full-time office position.
Job Duties Include:
- Making sure all items are on your calendar (listed first for a reason- it’s critical). You have a legal assistant that is part of your team, but this is everyone’s job and you need to be obsessed with this function (like we are);
- Working closely with senior associates and partners on larger matters and taking ownership of various projects and deadlines as they are assigned to you;
- Managing your own docket (yes, you will have your own cases where you will be the attorney responsible for day-to-day activities);
- Preparing for, attending, and arguing hearings and occasional trials; and
- Drafting briefs, motions, responses, and discovery that sometime come with emergent deadlines.
Technical Requirements:
- Zero to three years of litigation experience;
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and (hopefully) PowerPoint;
- Competency in litigation related matters, especially in the area of procedure;
- Familiarity with legal research a huge plus (we use Lexis Advanced); and
- Familiarity with Actionstep (a practice management app) is not required, but greatly appreciated (we will teach you are unfamiliar with it).
- Must have a Texas law license
Ideal Candidates:
- Are able to work with minimal supervision;
- Enjoy supporting others and are proactive to anticipate needs;
- Are detail-oriented and organized;
- Exhibit personal ownership of their responsibilities;
- Can meet deadlines;
- Experience with bankruptcy law is a plus; and
- Have a team-first mindset and a passion for the job.
We offer a generous benefit package and a supportive working environment to help you achieve your full potential. Salary is commensurate with experience. We are an equal opportunity employer.
