The Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager is responsible for leading all facets associated with driving Operational Excellence efforts within U.S. Silica corporate and plant operations. The role’s focus is to identify and improve the results of manufacturing and operational processes to improve efficiencies, reduce cost, and increase customer satisfaction. The continuous improvement manager will report to the Director of continuous improvement.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify key waste initiatives, including seeking out and eliminating waste in all plant functions
  • Identify opportunities for action through financial and performance analysis
  • Coach and manage projects at site levels
  • Optimize operations, recognize inefficiencies, and work with plant personnel on solutions to maximize productivity
  • Drive value stream mapping to define “As-is Analysis” and the transition to future state
  • Performing internal and external benchmarking, analysis, target setting, and publishing of key performance indicators (KPI)
  • Write PAR projects and measure performance against capital expenditure strategy and measure performance against project objectives
  • Function in the manner of an internal consultant on operational excellence projects
  • Additional duties as assigned


Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience leading operational excellence and/or continuous improvement initiatives in a process manufacturing environment or other relevant experience
  • Demonstrate a ‘Safety First Mentality’ and commitment to US Silica’s Core Values and safe behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.
  • Experience leading and training field operations on LEAN methodologies
  • Experience leading KAIZEN events
  • Systemic problem solver, with experience implementing solutions to solve root cause problems
  • Ability to handle multiple, complex priorities and balance the needs of each according to business impact
  • Experience in a variety of manufacturing areas (production, logistics, supply chain, etc.)
  • Creative and change-oriented Continuous Improvement process skills
  • Ability to work with abstract and complex concepts as well as communicate them in an easy-to-understand way
  • Experience utilizing root cause analysis techniques (fishbone diagram, Pareto charts, 5 Whys, etc.)
  • Advanced communication skills to work in a team environment and lead through influence
  • Implementation of planning, coaching, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work successfully with a broad range of employees ranging in level from frontline to senior leadership
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Power BI experience
  • Experience with JDE a plus
