Our client is a award winning boutique personal injury law firm in the heart of Downtown Toronto known for its low turnover. They are currently seeking a Personal Injury Law Clerk/Legal Assistant (Tort) to join their team.
Your new role
As a Personal Injury Law Clerk/Legal Assistant (Tort) , you will play a crucial role within the law firm. The responsibilities of the role include maintaining the calendar, scheduling appointments, setting up discoveries, mediations, and trial dates, answering correspondence, organizing and maintaining client files, and diarizing the calendar for follow-up. The role also requires knowledge of routine court procedures such as serving and filing court documents, handling client inquiries professionally, ensuring deadlines are met, and files are processed timely. Additionally, the role involves preparing pleadings and other legal documents (e.g., Statements of Claim, Notices of Motion, Affidavits of Documents), reviewing transcripts, preparing and updating undertakings charts, obtaining productions from opposing counsel and third parties, reviewing and summarizing medical documentation and other file documents, corresponding with the court regarding pre-trial matters, uploading documents to CaseLine, and finalizing and serving mediation and pre-trial briefs.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this position, we are seeking a candidate with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant/Law Clerk in Plaintiff Personal Injury (Tort). A Law Clerk Diploma or ILCO Certification is highly preferred but not required. Exceptional organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential. Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) is also required.
