Provides professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to care for patient within an assigned unit
n
Coordinates care planning with other disciplines
n
Under the supervision and administration of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse of assigned Unit, the Staff RN is responsible for the nursing care in an assigned nursing unit or a portion of a nursing unit.
n
Responsibilities
n
n - Promotes patient safety at all times.
n - Functions as the nursing leader of the nursing team he/she is assigned by the OR supervisor, assistant or designee.
n - Is responsible for circulating in the room assigned.
n - Promotes harmonious relationship within the unit group of physicians and nursing personnel.
n - Checks charts for necessary records:n
n - H&P or note dictated
n - Surgery Pre-Op checklist completed
n - Anesthesia record
n - Surgery permits properly signed
n - Necessary lab and x-ray reports
n
n - Responsible for proper positioning of patients and skin preparation
n - Responsible for meticulous observance of aseptic technique by all groups (medical and nursing)
n - Responsible for completion of sponge count, needle count and instrument count when indicated
n - Complete patient charges and nursing notes
n - Responsible for seeing that specimen is properly cared for
n - Must be able to take call
n - Keeps the OR supervisor informed of nursing and staff problems

Education:
n
· Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
n
· If CNOR, Continuing education requirements for re-certification is 150 in 5 years.

Experience:
nn
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
n
· Current RN Arkansas license with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
n
· BLS certification
n
· ACLS certification within one year
n
· CNOR certification, though not required, is a benefit.
nn
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
n
· Must be able to communicate with physicians, all levels of hospital personnel, patients, visitors and families.
n
· Pass pharmacology test given by NARMC with a score of 80% or above.
n
· Post-orientation, demonstrate knowledge as to patient care, medications, ability to recognize emergency situations then take appropriate actions.
n
· Knowledge of methods peculiar to OR nursing or complete on-the-job training
n
· Will not function as RN-circulating capacity until approved by OR supervisor
n
· Knowledge of hospital and OR policies and procedures
n
· Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
