HR Business Partner (Permanent Full-Time)


Position summary: The Human Resources Business Partner will utilize a broad breadth of HR skills and knowledge to partner with clients and provide support and strategic business thinking in clinical and non-clinical settings. The incumbent will provide expertise, guidance and support on all Human Resources activities including, but not limited to, recruitment and retention, compensation and benefit administration, labour and employee relations, and organizational development.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Bring value-added professional HR advice for effective and efficient delivery to clients in areas of conflict resolution, performance matters and other general HR issues.
  • Keep abreast of current legislation and amendments or changes in the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, the Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act and any other relevant legislation.
  • Prepare the production of various Human Resources reports and ensure Human Resource Information Systems data accuracy and integrity is maintained.
  • Advise managers and staff on policies and procedures related to human resources best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, management and key stakeholders (including union officials) to assist with meeting the needs in a proactive manner.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Human Resource policies, procedures and programs.
  • Engage in the delivery of sound, responsible guidance on matters involving workplace violence, workplace discrimination and harassment, return-to-work/modified work by identifying and cooperating with Occupational Health.
  • Ensure that the recruitment and selection process complies with all applicable laws, policies and collective agreements.
  • Working with the HR Coordinator act as a human resources representative for non-union recruitment and participate on interview panels as required.
  • Provide an effective labour relations service covering all collective agreements (ONA and SIEU) and represents the Hospital in day-to-day administration of the collective agreements and providing interpretation for both managers and staff.
  • Provide consultative and supportive services to managers and employees with respect to employee and workplace issues such as incident investigations, progressive discipline and performance issues.
  • Assist in the planning and development of successful collective bargaining strategies, investigating and researching existing Collective Agreements, and other Hospital resources.
  • Participate in and conducts salary surveys and market analysis of appropriate positions in accordance with hospital policy. Advise managers and staff appropriately on compensation policies.


The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:

  • University degree in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • CHRP designation is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in a generalist role dealing with all aspects of Human Resource Management issues and practices.
  • Labour relations experience in a unionized environment is required and Human Resources experience in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates complex decision making ability and creative problem solving / critical thinking skills
  • Statistical and report analysis is an asset
