Midnight Oil (moagency.com), strategically located in "the heart of Hollywood" in Burbank, CA, is an extraordinary creative, and specialty print production partner to the majority of theatrical and streaming studios, with relationships often measured in terms of decades, not years. We uniquely and conveniently combine our Studio and Print Production capabilities all under one roof in our 120,000 square feet facility, with an Amtrak stop and the Burbank Airport directly across the street. Position Summary: The Fabrication Designer excels in a dynamic, inventive environment where design and fabrication intersect. This role focuses on creating and crafting products that align with client desires, fulfill the company's strategic objectives, and are feasible to build, assemble, and install. Success in this position requires keen listening skills to understand client requirements and the aptitude to convey these needs to the fabrication team and account management teams through both verbal communication and detailed shop drawings.

Work Location: Onsite at our Burbank, CA office.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Design Development:
    • Collaborate with creative and engineering teams to develop innovative design concepts that meet the aesthetic and functional requirements of each project.
    • Collaborate with fabrication team members to assist in building and installing specialty products.
  • Technical Drawings:
    • Produce detailed technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software to guide the fabrication process.
    • Produce detailed construction drawings with accurate and clearly labeled measurements, guides, and materials & finishes specs.
  • Material Selection:
    • Identify and select appropriate materials and fabrication techniques to achieve the desired look and durability.
  • Project Management:
    • Collaborate with project managers and production during the development of all concepts.
    • Oversee the fabrication process from concept to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with artisans, fabricators, engineers and other team members to ensure seamless communication and execution of designs.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Address and solve any design or fabrication issues that arise during the production process.
  • Client Interaction:
    • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients to understand their vision and ensure their expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Quality Control:
    • Maintain high standards of quality and craftsmanship in all fabricated items.


Mandatory Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fabrication design within the entertainment industry or a similar field.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design, Scenic Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Creative background with strong emphasis in graphic and digital applications
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in fabrication design within the entertainment industry or a similar field.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of materials, fabrication techniques, and engineering principles.
  • Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks), 3D modeling software (SketchUp, Blender), and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Exceptional creative and artistic skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient in Zebra, Maya
  • Experience operating CNC Machines, Laser, Vac Forming, Wood working machine.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced

The national pay range for this role is $45-50/hour. The pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission, or incentive program.
