We are looking for someone that already has a wealth of experience in these sorts of social or publishing platforms who wants to innovate on what makes blogging, storytelling, and community building so valuable. These problems require care, expertise, and deep understanding.
We're looking for an experienced Product Manager who is excited to roll up their sleeves and work hands-on with our product, design and engineering teams. This is an opportunity to take your years of experience and passion for product to work with a small, high-pace product team to build great product experiences around a platform that has massive scale and opportunity.

Principal Product Manager will be responsible for some of the core components of how Medium operates: what motivates writers to write and share their personal experiences, how are communities built and cultivated, and how do readers discover, annotate, share, and process new information that can transform their lives and enrich their understanding of the world. If you are excited by the prospect of gaining a deep understanding of these problems and want to innovate on the next generation of these sorts of social content platforms, alongside a team excited for your ideas and leadership, this role is going to be a great fit for you.
Key Responsibilities- Build deep understanding of our product, our product space, and our customers to serve as the subject matter expert on all projects you oversee
- Partner with a team of engineers and designers through ideation, strategy, and launch of new core product mechanics and features
- Create an inspiring and ambitious vision across the company for your product areas, build the execution plan, and hold yourself and the team accountable for delivering measurable results
- Collaborate with a small product team (you will be the fourth PM) to create a company-level cohesive product vision and strategy
- Work with senior leadership to plan and set a clear and inspiring product roadmap for your team and company
- Work openly and transparently, effectively balancing competing projects and interests with the needs of customers, the business, and different teams within Medium
- Align with Medium's operating principles in how you get work done
- Attend and engage in offsite events to support organizational goals and enhance team dynamics (traveling may be required)
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise- You have a track record of building products that enable communities and/or social platforms and dynamics centered around reading, writing, and understanding. We want you to care about Medium's mission and deeply understand the product and the opportunities for growth, and we'd love to see what you've done in the past to move similar missions forward.
- You have 10+ years of experience in Product Management and/or related disciplines, working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, and content teams with increasing levels of responsibility and ownership.
- You have a customer-centric point of view. Talking to and learning from customers is an important part of your process, and you have experience with different ways of developing and measuring your ideas. Champion the importance of UXR within the organization.
- You are adept at energizing a team of engineers, designers, and cross-functional partners to think outside the box - and you have with skills and experience to translate that outside the box thinking into solutions that both users and the business will love.
- As the member of a small team, you are comfortable and capable of taking on a variety of roles and responsibilities related to the product lifecycle, including devising experiments and building test plans, analyzing data, conducting user research, and managing projects while closely collaborating with engineering and design partners.
- You have experience managing small teams or working at small companies where you were successful in defining, planning, and shipping new products from 0 to 1.
- You have a deep understanding of technical and design processes, and have the ability to help break large projects into smaller, actionable steps.
- You are a self-starter who has demonstrated ownership and autonomy within your Product org. You have experience working with senior leadership to establish key measures of success, and you have effectively and compassionately led teams through change.
- You are a clear and concise communicator in both verbal and written mediums.
- You have a proven history of delivering meaningful product results in the social or publishing platform space

This is a fully remote position and you can be based anywhere within the U.S.The compensation range for this position is between $225k-$260k per year base salary + equity and benefits, and is dependent on years and depth of experience.
