GENERAL PURPOSEWe are looking for an experienced corporate attorney to provide legal support and facilitate business objectives worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, global company and help shape the legal function. This position will be based at Seaboard headquarters in the Kansas City area.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- This position will guide and support a broad range of legal matters, including corporate governance, commercial contracts, M&A and regulatory compliance.
- Support business transactions around the globe, including drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements to meet both operational and strategic objectives.
- Manage corporate governance activities, including assistance with annual stockholder meetings, corporate secretarial matters and relevant public company obligations.
- Assist in the development, implementation and training on compliance programs and policies, including trade sanctions, anti-corruption, data privacy, business ethics and document retention.
- Provide support in other key functional areas such as tax, treasury, HR/benefits, IT and litigation.
- Work collaboratively and responsively with a broad range of colleagues across the organization to facilitate a coordinated team approach.
- Be a reliable legal partner to our internal stakeholders by providing strategic legal advice and business counsel, as well as quickly and accurately responding to and negotiating a challenging volume of matters with issues ranging from straightforward to complex.
- Engage, communicate with, and manage outside counsel, as appropriate.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE- Law degree and admission to the Kansas bar or eligibility for admission thereunder.
- 8 + years of hands-on experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. Prior in-house experience preferred.
- Strong business acumen and an ability to converse about both business and legal objectives in a cooperative and collaborative manner with C-level executives.
- Good judgment, a high level of professional integrity, a positive attitude, and an ability to work with and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills combined with an excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and directly with all levels of legal and business partners.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS- Willingness to travel on occasion to developing countries in Africa, Latin American, and the Caribbean.
- Experience with contract management and/or entity management systems and technology preferred.
- Experience presenting to and training large groups preferred.
- Foreign language skills (French or Spanish) are a plus.
