Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides compassionate nursing care to patients and families under the guidance of a physician and Nurse Manager.
Working within the Dermatology Service, the LPN ensures a quality-based, customer-oriented flow in the practice, assisting with patient care, documentation, and supporting both clinical and clerical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide physical and emotional support to patients and families, following care plans developed by the Nurse Manager and Medical Director.
- Document patient information in electronic health records per protocol; identify patient needs and utilize nursing resources as appropriate.
- Support patient education, reinforcing instructions on medication usage, wound care, and treatment plans.
- Administer medications and perform nursing procedures as defined by Dermatology Service protocols after successful orientation.
- Photograph patients with skin conditions using specified techniques and equipment.
- Triage patient calls, including urgent clinical needs, and schedule appointments or Telehealth consultations.
- Inform patients of test results and follow up on biopsies to ensure treatment plans are executed as scheduled by the physician.
- Manage prior authorizations for medications and provide clinical coverage across specialty services as needed.
- Order medical supplies, maintain inventory, and ensure compliance with fire, safety, and infection control protocols.
- Actively participate in quality assurance, service committees, and unit activities that support patient safety and satisfaction.
- Apply age-specific care knowledge, adjusting patient interactions and interventions to align with developmental needs.
Required Qualifications
- Current state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- CPR certification.
- Graduate of an approved LPN program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Phlebotomy experience.
- Previous experience as an LPN in a clinical setting.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively.
Certifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- CPR certification.
