BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

The MRI Technologist, Acute Care will perform a variety of complex, specialized, and technical tasks associated with the operation of high-field strength magnets. Employees under this classification may work with patients under the effects of sedation, or work with acute-care patients in ICU, Cardiac, Breast, Prostate, Advanced Neuro Imaging (fMRI and spectroscopy), or in research units. Work in areas with 24/7 scheduling expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform complex tasks associated with operating high-field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographic images of specific body parts. Screen patients for MR safety before procedure performance. Assist the radiologist with procedure protocols and performance. Start IVs; administer contrast media as directed and per protocol. Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for MR procedures.
Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images, sequence the acquisition, and label appropriately. Schedule patients for procedures and assist with clerical functions. Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration. Maintain accurate patient records. Provide orientation for new technologists. Understand and use the image archival system. Operate specialized cardiac monitoring equipment used for patients with pacemakers. Provide education and training for student technologists. Assist with the education and training of new physicians (interns, residents, fellows, and attendings if applicable). Assist radiologists and physicists in developing new protocols and MR imaging techniques unique to MU Health Care. May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

General supervision is received from assigned manager or supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT-MR) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); or MRI Technologist certification by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two (2) years of experience as an MRI technologist. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.
This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
