Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and residency program (corresponding to the specialty required in the TO) which has been approved by the 16 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association. Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training). For purposes of this requirement, graduate training programs include only those internships, residency, programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). The CP shall maintain these certifications in a current status throughout the life of this contract. This does not preclude any CP whose licensure or certification, although originally suspended or revoked by a healthcare facility, were subsequently fully reinstated by the same Healthcare professionals who fail to maintain a license, registration or certification will be removed from independent practice and privileged providers will be placed in abeyance. If time exceeds 30 days of abeyance, the provider will be placed in summary suspension IAW AFI 44 119, paragraph 9.16. until the license, registration or certification is renewed. Issuing agency grace periods are not honored by the AFMS when renewing a license, certification, or registrationnnPrivileging Requirements. The credentials of the CP shall meet the privileging requirements as outlined in the most current version of AFI 44- 119, Medical Quality OperationsnnThe CP shall furnish the MTF Credentialing Office with copies of valid, current, active, unrestricted medical licenses, registrations, education training certificates, and/or certifications in accordance with AFI 44-119, Medical Quality Operations. In addition, copies of board certifications are required, if applicable. The CP shall continuously maintain at least one active licensure or authorizing document from any U.S. jurisdiction throughout the life of this contract.
