Position: Project Cost Controller

Introduction
Brunel is currently looking for a Junior Project Cost Controller to join a leading EPCM firm in Calgary or Vancouver. This entry-level role offers the opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of large-scale capital projects in the minerals and metals, infrastructure, or oil and gas sectors.
In this position, you will support the management of project costs and schedules, ensuring projects are completed within established budgets and timelines. You will assist with the preparation of cost reports, monitor project expenditures, track progress, and help identify any potential risks or deviations from the plan. This role provides valuable exposure to key project control processes and offers an excellent foundation for advancing your career in project cost management.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the establishment and maintenance of project cost controls, including helping to create control budgets using work breakdown structures and control accounts.
- Assisting with resource planning and tracking project progress to ensure timely and successful project execution.
- Contributing to the preparation of project status reports, including cost analysis, cash flow forecasts, and variance assessments.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Procurement, and Construction to monitor and update cost forecasts, ensuring that they reflect the current project scope and schedule.
- Analyzing and maintaining accurate project cost data and contributing to the preparation of detailed project reports.
- Supporting general reconciliation tasks and administration of project and corporate invoices.
- Assisting in managing and tracking scope changes, ensuring they are reflected in project budgets and cost forecasts.
- Helping develop and maintain project schedules in Primavera P6, ensuring that updates align with the evolving project scope.
- Assisting in preparing change notices and maintaining change logs.
- Working closely with the Project Controls team to apply best practices and ensure the effective management of cost control and scheduling processes.
Requirements
- 1-4 years of experience in a project environment, ideally within engineering or construction, with exposure to cost control and scheduling.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with a proven ability to learn new systems and software quickly.
- Basic understanding of project management principles and a desire to develop further expertise in this field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with Primavera P6 or willingness to learn.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
