Full-Time Safety Manager - Onsite

Our quality products have a heritage dating back to the early 1800’s at the Hempler’s family sausage kitchen in Borken, Germany. Hans Hempler worked in the family sausage business in Germany as a youngster. He served as an apprentice sausage maker and learned first-hand the family’s old secret recipes becoming a master sausage maker before moving to the United States. The Production Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees working in the production environment. This role develops and manages Hempler’s safety culture, compliance with regulatory standards, and the development of safety training programs. The Production Safety Manager will proactively identify potential hazards, conduct risk assessments, and work closely with other department heads to foster a safety-first culture across all production operations.
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday – Hours will be 8am – 4:30pm but need to be flexible to assist swing shift as needed.
WAGE: $78,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure the facility adheres to all safety standards and regulations, maintaining up-to-date records for inspections and safety compliance
Monitors and enforces compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
Conducts regular safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments of the production areas
Identify potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risk
Conduct regular safety meetings
Assist in the development of safety training programs for production employees
Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
Prepare and submit incident reports in compliance with regulatory agencies
Analyze accident data and trends to recommend improvements to processes and safety procedures
Maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, fire safety, and chemical spill response
Conduct regular drills and exercises to ensure employees are prepared for emergencies
Ensure the production area is equipped with necessary safety equipment, such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits
Work closely with production supervisors, managers, and department heads to ensure safety is integrated into daily operations
Communicate safety concerns and improvements to upper management, ensuring leadership is informed and involved in safety initiatives.
May perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or OSHA certifications) in lieu of bachelor’s degree
- At least 3-5 years of experience in a safety management role, in a manufacturing or production environment
- Experience with
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail: Ensuring that all data is accurate & discrepancies resolved promptly
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This employee regularly works with office equipment, materials, chemicals, and wet floors with wet equipment when on the production floor. This employee works around high voltage, hot water, and steam.

- Physical work includes climbing stairs, etc.
- Willing to work in a various-temperature environment
- Ability to handle weighting items under 25lbs or may need to move objects safely and with proper body mechanics.

- Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
