We are hiring for a full-time M&A Business Development Associate in Toronto, ON. This person will work on-site in our downtown Toronto office 3-4 days a week.
In this role, you will hunt, screen, and help us acquire vertical market software companies in North America by proactively following up with business owners who are seeking to sell their businesses.
Skills You're Bringing
- Sales Acumen: Strong oral communication skills, advanced cold calling skills (including: "Getting past the gatekeeper," and quick to establish rapport), lead conversations off-script, and comfortably interact with mature business owners.
- Experience using Salesforce would be a plus.
- Work Ethic: Works proactively, persistence, efficient, self-directed, extraordinary work ethic
- Intellectual Curiosity: Able to qualify leads by piecing together information to develop a view on the business, interested in improving processes and experimenting.
- Financial Acumen: Educational background in business with accounting and financial knowledge/interest.
- Experience using Excel would be a plus. What You'll Be Doing
- Establishing and building relationships with decision makers of acquisition targets
- Proactively following up with business owners that are seeking to sell their business
- Developing industry knowledge and attending in-person meetings with business owners
- Present qualified acquisition candidates to the internal M&A committee at the weekly meeting
- Ultimately sourcing deals: Signing Non-Disclosure Agreements ("NDAs") with these qualified leads to obtain financial and operational information
Outcomes Will Include
- Consistently have a minimum of 2 substantive calls with business owners every day
- Obtain 1 executed NDA per week
- Follow up to ensure that information requests get fulfilled for all qualified prospects
- Present qualified acquisition candidates to the internal M&A committee at the weekly meeting
- Conduct industry research to identify attractive markets
- Plan/attend trade shows and geographic prospecting trips
Required Experience
A business/financial degree from a reputable business school and 2 years of business development/sales experience (preferably in financial services/asset management, insurance, etc.). Fluent in English.

Downtown Toronto. Hybrid work environment. We will require a resource to be in the office as required.
