The Manager, Inventory Accounting, plays a critical role in leading global inventory accounting, ensuring compliance with accounting policies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize processes. This position oversees inventory controls, financial reporting, and strategic initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Governance:
- Lead the Inventory Center of Excellence, reporting to the Global Inventory Controller.
- Oversee inventory governance, internal controls, and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Standardize and harmonize inventory accounting practices globally.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Manage monthly and quarterly close processes, including inventory valuation, reserves, and adjustments.
- Reconcile inventory-related balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Validate cost of goods sold and review inter-company profit eliminations.
- Conduct trend analysis and variance reviews to identify improvement opportunities.
- Inventory Management:
- Coordinate and oversee cycle counts and physical inventory reviews with business units.
- Investigate and resolve inventory count variances.
- Collaboration & Strategic Planning:
- Work with FP&A to forecast inventory balances and related financial metrics.
- Partner with procurement, operations, and legal teams to address new or complex transactions.
- Support inventory-related activities for mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence and ERP integration.
- Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Create and standardize inventory reports, KPIs, and dashboards for management.
- Hold regular meetings with finance, operations, and procurement teams to discuss inventory performance.
- Compliance & Auditing:
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors on compliance and audit requirements.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and develop team members, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and succession planning.
- Establish and oversee departmental training programs.
- Budgeting & Operational Planning:
- Develop and manage the departmental budget and authorize expenditures.
- Plan and implement short- and long-term strategic objectives.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in business, management or related field
- CPA or Master's degree preferred
- 8+ years of experience in accounting or finance specifically with inventory and material costing
- Proven leadership experience
