Job Title - Payroll Specialist II
Location-Detroit, MI 48202
Duration- 13 weeks + Possible extension
Pay Range- $21/hr-$23/hr
Job Duties
- Performs online edits and corrections to payroll system PeopleSoft.
- Communicates with client programmers and is involved in testing of pay issues.
- Calculates special check requests and audit requests by departments and HR.
- Processes internal adjustments for employees when necessary by analyzing past payroll information and calculating proper adjustment amounts.
- Performs difficult and detailed corrections of the exception time report edits by analyzing errors, performing advanced on-line corrections in the PeopleSoft system.
- Responsible for reviewing and validating Kronos schedules and timekeeping duties and following payroll guidelines, policies, and procedures. Contact various department supervisors and management for timecard discrepancies.
- Answers complex questions via phone inquiries by HFH employees, timekeepers, management personnel, and Human Resources for union, nonunion, hourly, and salary employees including executives and physicians.
- Communicate with employees and various levels of management regarding questions and concerns related to their paychecks and related calculations.
- Processes garnishment checks and mails check with legal statement of HFH’s financial responsibility regarding garnishment to requestors such as Friend-of-theCourt, Attorneys, or IRS
- Prepares stop payment and voided checks in a time statements manner for reversal and reissue.
- Processed deductions from employee paychecks such as union dues, pharmacy, vendor sales, and Gold Coast.
- Calculates incorrect payments and processes the necessary adjustments to recover overpayment amounts from employees' paychecks.
- Independently selects, interprets, and applies proper codes, rules, and regulations related to payroll transactions in the PeopleSoft system.
- Works closely with the Payroll Analyst and Accounting team to ensure proper allocations to the general ledger.
- Ensures confidential information is handled securely and maintained according to company guidelines in a confidential manner and with discretion.
- Corrects 'no-time' edit for employees listed as active on the master file but shows no time recorded.
- Able to meet deadlines, work under pressure and be available for overtime as needed.
- Perform other special projects as assigned.
Skills:
- Mental/visual strain may result from frequent reading and recording of documents and dealing with employees regarding paycheck questions or concerns.
- Payroll certification (FPC or CPP) is preferred.
- At least two (2) years of related payroll experience is required. Previous hospital experience is highly desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft and Kronos systems payroll and timekeeping.
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving/judgment skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Tact and discretion required in regards to security of PeopleSoft and Kronos in addition to exposure to confidential and sensitive information.
- Excellent organizational skills required in order to maintain documents, records, logs, etc. and track in CRM system.
- Able to manage self and prioritize workload to maximize efficiencies. Must be able to multi-task and properly execute multiple simultaneous assignments.
- Team player. Courteous and professional demeanor with excellent communication and customer service skills are essential for dealing with internal and external customers. Participative team member – ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions.

- Must have experience with timecards, Kronos, ADP, and PeopleSoft.
- Experience with union contracts and garnishment is required.
- HR background is necessary.
- Candidate must know how to complete comparison analysis and troubleshoot.
- Must be able to prioritize tasks and make decisions on what needs to be a priority.
- Candidate must answer pre-screening questions before being passed to the manager.
Education:
