Position Overview
The Engineering Technician is a senior lead engineering technician, applying advanced engineering principles and design practices to develop complex concepts. Under general direction, this role creates, modifies, and reviews deliverables while providing technical guidance and leadership to other engineering professionals. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in engineering standards, quality assurance, project coordination, and people management.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Standards
- Provide proactive guidance and direction, utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and company policies/procedures.
- Review project requirements to determine the appropriate format and contents for deliverables.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Promote quality assurance within projects and teams.
- Review design inputs for consistency and compliance with codes and standards.
- Ensure proper drawing control and historical record-keeping as established by the project.
- Drive continuous improvement and change management efforts while demonstrating personal accuracy.
Engineering Production
- Apply engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex concepts and deliverables.
- Perform design calculations, material quantity estimates, and detailed records.
- To perform assignments, utilize advanced applications (e.g., modeling and design software).
- Review and approve deliverables created by others and provide technical guidance.
- Define work assignments, maintain schedules, and may participate in plant start-up activities related to areas of expertise.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with other design groups to review and exchange project information for design development.
- Support field activities and communicate project design requirements, progress, and schedules to stakeholders.
Client Focus
- Assist in identifying client interests and drivers and communicating these to project teams.
- Develop approaches to address client concerns and ensure satisfaction.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation, & Technology
- Assist department management in developing and communicating design standards and process improvements.
- Identify training needs and support the professional development of team members.
People Management
- Mentor and supervise engineering technicians, providing guidance, instruction, and feedback.
- Participate in career planning, learning, and development activities.
- Support performance management processes, recognition, and corrective actions as needed.
Resource Management
- Monitor staffing levels and available skill sets for projects.
- Assist in identifying resource application needs and process requirements.

Education & Experience
Education:
- Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology (preferred).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Design Technology (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
