Basic FunctionThe Fleet Services Emergency Vehicle Technician's (EVT) primary duties are the repair and maintenance of emergency fire protection and public safety vehicles and equipment. The EVT also performs preventative maintenance, routine maintenance/repairs, and emergency repairs on all fleet vehicles, including Construction Equipment, Automobiles, Light, Medium, and Heavy-Duty Trucks, Fire Apparatus, Ambulances, Police Pursuit units as well as other Fleet assets.Essential Job FunctionsModels our Core Competencies and champions our Culture.Performs routine preventative maintenance and state inspections on the vehicles fleet of standard and emergency vehicles and equipment.Performs troubleshooting and accurate diagnoses of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and computerized vehicle components.Performs scheduled and unscheduled repairs to the vehicles fleet of standard and emergency vehicles and equipment.Repairs standard and emergency vehicles and equipment conforming to industry, City, State, and Federal standards.Responds to roadside or field repairs.Utilizes fleet maintenance software to record detailed and accurate documentation of service and repairs.Conducts new vehicle and equipment check-in, make-ready, and decommissioning operations.Performs good housekeeping practices to maintain the shop, work area, tools, and equipment in a safe and orderly manner.Test drives/operate vehicles and equipment before and after repairs.Interacts in a professional and respectful manner with coworkers, employees, vendors, and the public.Regular and punctual attendance is required.Performs other related job duties as assigned.ExperienceThe Fleet Services EVT Technician must have a high school diploma or GED equivalentRequires a minimum of two years of experience in automotive and/or heavy truck repairOne year of small engine repair experience is desiredTwo years experience in heavy equipment and/or Fire Apparatus repairMust possess at least one of the following EVT certifications: F3, F4, F5, F6, E1, E2, E3, or E4Must have EVT Level I Fire Apparatus Technician and EVT Level I Ambulance Technician certifications or applicable manufacturer training and certifications or obtain them within the first 18 months of employmentMust have ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification or obtain it within the first 18 months of employmentMust be "Official State of Texas Vehicle Inspector" or obtain within first six months of employmentMust possess a Class A or B CDL Texas Driver's License, with a good driving recordMust have Mobile A/C certification, MACS, or equivalentRequired to be On-Call 24 hours a day for a seven-day period on a rotating scheduleMust provide tools and toolboxes as required of a Fleet EVT TechnicianLicense and certifications must be maintained during the term of employmentKnowledge/Skillsets/AbilitiesMust be self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervisionKnowledge of NFPA standards and regulations for emergency vehicle maintenance and repairMust have knowledge of repairs and troubleshooting of automotive, heavy truck, and construction equipmentAbility to read, understand and comprehend owners' manuals, repairs manuals, schematics, and drawings to repair and maintain the fleet in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair proceduresKnowledge of fluids and components used in the repair and servicing of vehicles and equipmentKnowledge of proper disposal procedures for used oils, chemicals, and other hazardous materialsAbility to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writingAbility to work effectively in a team environment, contribute as a team member, and treat others with respectAbility to prioritize, monitor, and organize work assignments efficientlyAbility to follow verbal and written instructions to complete tasks as assignedAbility to work after normal business hours, weekends, and weekdays, as neededSkill in operating shop tools and equipment while following safety practices and standard operating proceduresSkilled in the use of computers, maintenance software, and other office equipmentSkill in proactively identifying and resolving issues, consistently making sound decisions, and correctly executing policy processes and proceduresWorking ConditionsPhysical demands essential to a Fleet EVT Technician include strenuous activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, sweeping, and carrying heavy objects.Frequent standing, crawling, kneeling, crouching, balancing, stooping, and climbing will be required.Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force consistently.Mental and visual acuity along with talking and hearing are required to routinely perform physical activities and maintain a safe work environment.Safety PPE equipment is provided and must be worn as required by policy and good safety practices.Work is performed primarily inside and outside and is subject to all types of weather and temperature conditions.
