Job Description

Job Title: Automation Technician – 2nd shift

Location: Franklin, WI

Industry: Manufacturing (consumer products)

Status of Hire: direct placement; permanent

Pay: $33/hr-$40/hr plus a $2/hr shift premium

Hours: 4:45 PM – 3:15 AM, Monday – Thursday with overtime on weekends as needed.

Reports to: Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor


Position Summary:

This position assists within the maintenance department to handle the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing environment. This position will report to the Production Manager and will require strong organizational, analytical, mechanical and teamwork skills.


Functional Responsibilities:

Responsible for hands on maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all plant pneumatics, hydraulics, electric systems including the ability to connect to programmable logic control (PLC) systems, use them to trouble-shoot equipment or modify programs to improve performance or quality or both.

Maintain plant support equipment: air compressors, forklifts, boiler, wastewater treatment system, fire systems, HVAC, pumps, chillers.

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical failures in all plant manufacturing equipment which includes but is not limited to, mixing, filling, packaging equipment, conveyers, or any other equipment.

Performs minor unscheduled maintenance and repair on trucking equipment such as forklifts or powered industrial vehicles.

Responsible for accurate and timely documentation of work performed or processes used to repair or conduct preventive maintenance.

Create, execute and properly document work orders within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (ManagerPlus & MP2 preferably).

Accurately complete additional scheduling and repair material documentation and reporting as required and make suggestions for improvements and take on projects to achieve results

Active participation in machine process and design improvement forums is required.

Participate in health and safety programs including council or committee meetings, OSHA and corporate mandated training, certification and re-certification

Assist with installation of new equipment, debug, validations, etc.

Install and prove-out improvements to equipment by the addition of sensors, actuators, cameras, etc.

Participate or lead 5S / LEAN initiatives / Projects.

Investigate and resolve day-to-day production issues

Other duties/projects as assigned by supervisor

Must be detail orientated and maintain a clean work area

Required Experience, Desired Skills & Qualifications:

3-5 years of experience in industrial machine maintenance

Two year, or higher technical degree, and 3-5 years of applicable experience

Communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbal

Demonstrate essential computer skills

Work cooperatively in a team environment

Ability to lift 75 lbs

Ability to read and use mechanical and electrical schematics for troubleshooting

Ability to use an electrical Multimeter for troubleshooting

Understanding of and ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, or mechanical system components, such as pumps, valves, cylinders, motors and solenoids.

Problem solving experience or training (8D, Six Sigma, DOE, SPC).

High speed manufacturing experience (packaging, filling, labeling).

Continuous Improvement experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience in OTC or FDA controlled environment / Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP).

Experience with blending, filling, packaging, or automated equipment is a plus.

Knowledge of troubleshooting bearings, belts, sprockets, gears, chains, cams, pistons, servo motors.

Experience with ink jet printers or laser markers and the Preventive Maintenance and repair of such.

Basic electrical controls (120v, 24v)

Experience with welding stainless steel

Fanuc robot experience

Experience in PLC programming / PLC troubleshooting.

Experience and understanding of sensor function, use, and wiring.

Understanding of precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, or other gages.

Understanding of and ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical system components such as motors, variable AC drives, PLCs, and field sensors.

Understanding of industrial air compressors and peripheral components such as dryers, water separators and automatic bleed off.

Knowledge of HMI operation and troubleshooting.

Demonstrate technical proficiency for mechanical repair and an understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance techniques.

Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish is a plus.

Independently develop ideas and make proposals directed toward the improvement of functional area (equipment / process)

Rockwell Automation Compact Logic (RSLogix 5000, RS500, Siemens, DirectLogix)

Ethernet IP networks, EthernetIP on machine devices and VFDs

Knowledge of OSHA and Control of Hazardous Energy procedures and regulations

NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace
