Overview:


JCM Associates, Inc. is seeking a driven and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Senior Mechanical Estimator . Assuming responsibility for reviewing bid documents and developing pursuit strategies with Chief Estimator and HVAC Estimators to prepare successful cost estimates and proposals to generate new business. This is a full-time, in the office, position focused on estimating for commercial construction projects in the Maryland, Virginia, and DC areas. Qualifications

 

·        Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

·        5 to 10 years of industry-specific experience as a Senior Mechanical Estimator.

·        Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel in particular).

·        Experience with QuoteSoft estimating software

·        Advanced organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

·        Strong communication/interpersonal skills to develop and enhance business relationships, internally and externally.

·        Strong working relationship with local subcontractor and vendor community

·        Aptitude for producing meaningful results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

·        Previous mechanical/plumbing industry experience in project management or supervisory role is  preferred.



Key Responsibilities:


·        Thorough review and understanding of bid documents.

·        Develop and maintain strong working relationships with JCM vendors and subcontractors in pursuit of new business.

·        Establish and maintain bid solicitation process for soliciting proposals from subcontractors and vendors.

·        Confers with peers/management on prospective new bid pursuits.

·        Develop vendor scopes of work to ensure complete accuracy with project requirements.

·        Develop subcontractor scopes of work to ensure complete accuracy with project requirements.

·        Develop clear and concise RFI’s that elicit a proper response.

·        Negotiates with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best prices at bid time and buyout.

·        Reviews bid documents, examines estimator bid takeoffs in detail, and adjusts as required by job conditions.

·        Ensures “right products” specified are used preparation of estimate.

·        Calculates project control, field supervision, general conditions, and other pertinent costs for analysis.

·        Writes bid scope proposals, obtains bid bonds/insurance certificates, and completes customer bid forms.

·        Assembles all necessary documents, estimated information, and calculations into final bids.

·        Identifies opportunities that provide JCM an advantage in bid pursuit (i.e. value engineering).

·        Conducts a thorough bid review with Chief Estimator prior to the submission of the project proposal.

·        Submits project proposals and participates in proposal presentations.

·        Contacts customers/contractors during the bid process to obtain additional information about project as needed.

·        Attends scope review meetings, and offers value engineering and breakout pricing, as needed.

·        Documents trade wage rate schedules and parameter estimate log information.

·        Maintains knowledge of codes, standards, and sales tax requirements for geo areas of proposed projects.

·        Participates in training, development opportunities, and performance feedback to manager, to improve performance and industry knowledge.

·        Prepares equipment and subcontractor buy-out packages after award of project.

·        Prepares Estimating Turnover package for Project Management.

·        Up to 15% travel, primarily to client/branch offices and local job sites.
