Job Description

Proper Hospitality is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Group Sales Manager to lead and manage all event planning, coordination and execution at The Shelborne by Proper, a renowned hotel re-opening and debuting in our portfolio in early 2025.

Our property will introduce four vibrant new food & beverage destinations to the neighborhood, each suited for warm weather dining, with an all-day signature restaurant, a lobby bar-lounge, and curated cafe. Resort amenities will include a spacious pool and lush garden lounge, indoor-outdoor cabanas, sundeck terrace, state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated access to a private beach club, and more than 15,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting & event space.

The Sr. Group Sales Manager is responsible for driving group sales and managing client relationships. This role requires a strategic thinker with experience in luxury hospitality who can blend an understanding of our unique brand with a proactive approach to cultivating high-value group bookings. As a critical member of our sales team, you’ll manage and grow a portfolio of key accounts, lead outreach initiatives and develop creative sales strategies to maximize revenue and occupancy rates for group bookings.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive group sales strategy targeting corporate, social, and association markets to meet and exceed quarterly and annual revenue goals
  • Identify and pursue new group sales opportunities to grow business from key feeder markets
  • Collaborate with the Director of Sales & Marketing to create and implement tailored group promotions and packages that reflect The Shelborne's brand identity and resonate with our target market

Client Relations & Account Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, acting as the primary point of contact for all group-related inquiries and bookings
  • Deliver an elevated client experience by personalizing group proposals, negotiating contracts and anticipating client needs to ensure exceptional service
  • Coordinate with the hotel’s operational departments (i.e. F&B, Events, Front Desk) to seamlessly execute group bookings, ensuring all requirements are met for a memorable stay

Market Analysis & Reporting

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities and potential client feedback to identify new sales opportunities and adjust strategies accordingly
  • Prepare regular reports on group sales metrics, booking trends and revenue projections, providing insights and recommendations to the Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Develop and maintain an updated group sales database, tracking inquiries, conversion rates and overall client engagement

Events & Trade Shows

  • Represent The Shelborne at industry events, trade shows and networking functions to build connections and promote our group services
  • Plan and host familiarization trips and on-site client events to showcase the property, amenities and event spaces to potential clients and planners

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in place of education
  • 5+ years of group sales experience in a luxury or boutique hotel setting, with a proven track record of exceeding sales targets
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Deep knowledge of the luxury hospitality market, including trends, key players, and emerging opportunities
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and sales reporting tools; knowledge of sales techniques and revenue management principles is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines with a high level of professionalism, organization and attention to detail
