This position involves communication regarding technical capabilities and limitations, prioritization of requirements, and schedule demands for custom light-metrology solutions. This position is a key component in a very dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging engineering environment.
The ideal candidate can speak technically at a range of levels from novice to expert, and most importantly, the ability to listen. Being able to extract the right information with the right questions to fully understand the customer’s needs is essential.
Beyond customer interaction, the Optical Systems Engineer will need to relay those requirements to the internal design team and provide a clear description of the system to be built with a focus on the optical design and overall system performance. Specific attention is to be made to creating a holistic system that performs according to the customer use case.
Key Responsibilities:
- Duties will include optical system design, laboratory measurements, and customer training/installations of light metrology systems.
- The applications will span the gamut of light measurement applications (LEDs, lasers, OLEDs, plasma sources), remote sensing uniform source systems (UV/VIS/NIR), material reflectance, integrating sphere design, spectrometer and sensor analysis, and imaging device analysis.
- Ideal candidate will have broad experience with light metrology and engineering applications in as many of the following areas as possible: Optical design and simulation, Thermal Analysis, LEDs, OLEDs, mLED, UV/VIS/NIR applications, Remote Sensing, Light Measurement, Integrating Sphere Design, Optical Sensor Calibrations, Optical Systems Design, Optical Laboratory methods, and Laser Power Measurements
- Must be self-motivated, be able to learn quickly, and be able to meet project cost and schedule constraints
- The candidate may also be asked to attend trade shows, conferences, and customer visits, and be able to join/contribute to domestic and international standards committees.
- The candidate will need to work within a cross-functional team environment to provide creative and innovative solutions to solve challenging optical problems. Experience with Zemax, TracePro, MATLAB, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation a plus.
- The candidate will be a team player willing to impart knowledge to other team members across the organization and promote the work of the Engineering group both internally and externally at conferences and trade shows.
