Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Grant Accountant with a strong non-profit background to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the accounting functions related to grants, ensuring compliance with non-profit funding regulations, and providing detailed financial analysis and reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of grant accounting principles within the non-profit sector, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all accounting activities related to grants for non-profit programs, including monitoring fund balances, expenditures, and ensuring that funds are used in accordance with donor agreements.
- Prepare and submit accurate financial reports to grantors, ensuring compliance with non-profit regulations and reporting requirements.
- Perform regular grant reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and ensure alignment between grant records and financial statements.
- Assist in preparing grant proposals, budgets, and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and funding expectations.
- Collaborate with program managers and project leads to ensure proper tracking of grant-funded activities and accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, organizational policies, and federal and state regulations relevant to non-profit grants.
- Review and interpret grant agreements, ensuring proper coding, cost allocation, and reporting per non-profit guidelines and funder requirements.
- Support the preparation for annual audits, providing the necessary documentation and financial reports related to grant-funded projects.
- Develop and implement best practices and procedures for monitoring grant fund usage and ensuring proper allocation of resources in a non-profit setting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant accounting, preferably within a non-profit organization.
- In-depth knowledge of grant accounting principles and financial reporting, specifically in the non-profit sector.
- Strong understanding of non-profit regulations, funding requirements, and compliance standards.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- CPA or CGA designation is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, managing multiple priorities and deadlines, while fostering a collaborative team environment.
