A rapidly growing, innovative global leader in the analytical instrumentation industry is seeking an Engineering Director . This key position involves leading the development and design of analytical products, supervising engineering and quality teams, and ensuring high-quality manufacturing. The role is based in Houston, TX.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of mechanical, electrical, software, and quality engineers to develop sensors, analyzers, and software applications.
- Develop, deploy, monitor, and measure R&D goals, objectives, and internal design standards within all engineering subgroups.
- Build and manage systems for Engineering Change Management (ECM) and version control through centralized documentation systems.
- Partner with operations to translate assembly drawings, BOMs, build documents, and Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R) into work instructions, assembly/test manuals, and procurement plans.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, and service to develop solutions for product gaps and launch.
- Manage internal design reviews and participate in reviews with customers and key stakeholders.
- Ensure final product designs are functional, cost-effective, and meet customer and industry requirements.
- Manage and implement New Product Development (NPD)/VaVe project valuations and prioritize innovation/NPD and sustaining projects.
- Provide technical expertise on strategic initiatives and periodic market trend insights.
- Promote good communication and engagement among internal and external teams to meet customer expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in designing and developing analytical instrumentation.
- 3+ years of experience in a management leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles and procedures for sensors and systems designs.
- In-depth understanding of VaVe, DVP&R, sustaining engineering, and principles related to cost-take-out, commonization, and modular designs.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and procedures for safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance. Experience with design and certification for hazardous locations is a plus.
- Proficiency in ANSI/ASME and ASTM standards preferred.
- Experience with ISO 9001 preferred.
- Relevant experience in Design for Manufacturing, Sensors and Analyzers, Stage-gate/Phase-gate processes, New Product Development/Introductions (NPD/NPI), SolidWorks or other PDM systems, compliance, certification, and instrument regulations, and Root Cause Analysis Countermeasures.
- Ability to manage complex engineering projects while balancing managerial responsibilities.
