VMSI is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support a proposed contract with our client located in Laurel, MD.

As part of this team, you will be responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation and media, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to industry best practices. You will work closely with IT professionals, developers, subject matter experts, and end-users to gather information and develop comprehensive documentation that supports system functionality and user needs.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a variety of technical documentation, including user manuals, operational guides (e.g., user guides, quick reference guides), training materials (e.g., brochures, presentations), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and troubleshooting, and after-action reports.
• Create instructional videos, including eliciting media content and textual information, formatting, developing content compliant with accessibility and quality standards, and saving to designated platforms.
• Research and gather information from IT project managers, developers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and end-users to create comprehensive and accurate content.
• Edit existing documents for clarity, consistency, and adherence to company standards, grammar, and formatting guidelines.
• Utilize documentation and video production tools to produce high-quality, professional documentation and media.
• Format and upload documentation to designated repositories.
• Proofread all materials for grammatical accuracy and technical precision.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on documentation needs and updates.
• Leverage industry best practices in technical writing and video production.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. 10 years of relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
• Six (6) years of senior-level experience preferred. Minimum of 6 years of experience in a technical writing position.
• Proven experience in technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
• Strong skills in technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
• Proficiency in documentation tools and version control.
• Understanding of software and project development processes.
• AP style guide experience preferred.
• SOW and RFP development experience preferred.
• Excellent research skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience in video production and editing is a plus.
• Experience working with or supporting federal government agencies is highly desirable.

This position is contingent upon contract award.
