Controls Engineer | Rolling Meadows, IL

Kelly Engineering is seeking a Controls Engineer to join our client’s team. This role focuses on designing, programming, and upgrading automated equipment hardware and software to retrofit legacy systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Develop and optimize control system retrofits to enhance performance.
• Program control systems for cam, servo, air-operated stations, test, and electrical devices.
• Ensure electrical designs are functional, cost-effective, and compliant with company and regulatory standards.
• Research and specify appropriate components for system upgrades.
• Create and update wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, and BOMs.
• Participate in design reviews, installations, and service calls as needed.
• Estimate engineering hours required for machine retrofits and upgrades.
• Provide technical guidance on wiring, coding, and software validation.
• Collaborate with suppliers to develop efficient, cost-effective solutions.
• Debug software issues and document updates accordingly.
• Communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and electricians.
• Manage workload efficiently, meeting project schedules and budgets.

TRAVEL: Approximately 50%

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3-6 years of experience in automation and control systems.
• Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, servo controls, and electrical design.
• Experience with Eplan, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with inspection tools like calipers, micrometers, multimeters, and dB meters.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
