Job Description

Summary:

Lead the development, engineering, and testing of firearms by managing teams of engineers in new product development, sustaining engineering, and innovation. Oversee a Technical Center, prototype builds, product improvements, and testing operations. Drive technology processes, ensure product safety, and foster talent in a high-performing R&D organization.


Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage multiple engineering projects to meet timing, quality, and cost goals.
  • Build and lead an engineering team of up to 20 members, including external teams.
  • Develop multi-year product development roadmaps and CAD/software strategies.
  • Support manufacturing, quality management, procurement, and product improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the company at trade shows and industry organizations, staying abreast of market trends.
  • Ensure team proficiency with current technologies, certifications, and engineering tools (e.g., SolidWorks, 3D CAD).
  • Prepare and manage the department’s annual operating budget.
  • Drive product growth through innovation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Mentor and develop team members while fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Participate in sales, business development, and standards committees as needed.


Required:

  • Strong design instincts and the ability to function as Chief Engineer, earning respect for engineering expertise.
  • Proven ability to lead, delegate, and achieve results through others.
  • Dedication to continuous improvement with metrics-driven approaches.
  • Understanding of CNC machining and design for manufacturability.
  • Proficient in engineering tools (SolidWorks, 3D CAD, analysis tools).
  • Strong project and program management skills to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills across all levels.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems, and engineering resources.
  • Commitment to mentoring, motivating, and developing teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
  • In case a candidate is without an extensive firearms design background, must be willing to research and learn about SAAMI procedures and specifications relative to firearms industry development, testing, and validation requirements and procedures.


Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, advanced degree in Engineering or MBA strongly 20+ years of direct experience in the design, development, build, qualification, test and certification of manufactured products with at least 15 years of management experience.
