Apply today!Job Description The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated, self-driven, entry-level nuclear engineer to join the reactor core design development team. This position offers the unique opportunity to become a member of the team designing the next generation of fast attack submarine. Our Future Development Programs Department is focused on defining the design space and technology required for a next generation attack submarine and evaluating core technology costs versus performance capability trade-offs. An entry-level nuclear engineering candidate is being sought to assess the neutronics performance of new technology concepts in support of improving the performance of naval reactors. This project is currently in the pre-conceptual design phase, and the work may be performed with simple, first-principles-based scoping tools through detailed analyses utilizing the latest design codes. This phase will be followed by a formal core design effort requiring model development and qualification. This project requires frequent and effective communication with other core design, materials performance, core manufacturing, and reactor plant development groups in support of future reactor plant designs. This position provides opportunities to influence technology development for performance gains and cost reductions. The successful candidate will be expected to identify opportunities to apply their expertise and then decisively act to fully evaluate those opportunities.
