Summary:
Scanning personnel perform all functions necessary to prepare and scan any medical records into the Electronic Health Record. This includes prepping the charts by removing staples, repairing tears, taping edges, appropriately labeling both the form and review for proper patient labeling ensuring these documents scan properly. Scanning personnel will scan, index and quality review all patient records for inpatient, emergency department, outpatient surgeries and any/all hospital outpatient departments. In addition, the Health Information Management (HIM) Scanner will scan, index and Quality Assurance (QA) Midland Physician Group (MPG) office documentation. They will have the knowledge of thousands of forms and be able to index those forms so they land in the appropriate place within the Electronic Health Record. The responsibility for this position also includes participation in continuous quality improvement. They must be extremely detail oriented as we are a multiple facility operation with "One Person, One Record" so others must be able to rely on the same forms landing in the same location
Responsibilities:
(35%)* Performs all clerical functions necessary to prepare the medical record for scanning. This includes repairing tears, removing staples and paperclips, taping uneven edges and other preparation as necessary to ensure individual documents scan properly.
(10%)* Performs basic preventive maintenance on the scanners, including changing rollers and cleaning.
(35%)* Enter data into the hospital information system identifying scanned medical records (indexing).
(20%)* Performs quality checks on a minimum of 70% of scanned medical records.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the scanning area and the department of Health Information Services.

Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement as required by the Medical Center and the job description.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
One year of clerical experience preferred. Medical Center health information services clerical experience preferred.
Successful completion of the Office Worker Test with a minimum score of 70%.
Successful completion of a Typing Test with a minimum speed of 40 WPM.
Strong customer service orientation.
Good communication skills.
Good computer (keyboard) knowledge.
Must be able to coordinate efforts with co workers to maximize productivity and quality of services.
Must have very good organizational skills.
Must have good knowledge of Federal/State regulations regarding the privacy of protected health information.
